What Information Stock Stickers Contain

Stock stickers are printed labels that identify vehicles on your lot. A typical stock sticker includes:

  • Stock number — Your dealership's internal identifier for the vehicle, printed as both text and a scannable barcode.
  • Year, make, and model — The basic vehicle identification visible at a glance.
  • VIN — The full 17-character Vehicle Identification Number.
  • Exterior color — The factory color name and code.
  • Interior color — The interior trim color.
  • Key details — Engine, transmission, and drivetrain information.
  • Dealership name and logo — Your dealership branding for a professional appearance.
  • Barcode — A scannable barcode for quick lookups by scanning the sticker instead of the VIN.

Customizing Sticker Templates

ScanIt Vehicles comes with pre-built sticker templates, but you can customize them to match your dealership's needs:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Sticker Templates from the main menu.
  2. Select an existing template to modify, or create a new one from scratch.
  3. Choose which data fields to include on the sticker. You can add or remove fields like price, days in stock, lot location, or custom text.
  4. Adjust the layout, font sizes, and positioning to fit your label stock size.
  5. Upload your dealership logo if you want it printed on every sticker.
  6. Save the template and set it as your default for new vehicle stickers, used vehicle stickers, or both.

Tip: Create separate templates for new and used vehicles. New vehicle stickers might include MSRP and factory options, while used vehicle stickers might include mileage and a condition summary.

Printing Stickers with Portable Printers

One of the biggest advantages of ScanIt Vehicles is the ability to print stickers right at the vehicle, anywhere on the lot:

  1. Make sure your portable label printer is powered on and connected to the same WiFi network as your scanner.
  2. From the scanner, look up the vehicle by scanning its VIN or stock number barcode.
  3. Select Print Stock Sticker from the vehicle options menu.
  4. Choose the template you want to use (if you have more than one configured).
  5. The sticker prints immediately on your portable printer. Peel and apply it to the vehicle.

You can also print stickers from the web interface on any workstation connected to a desktop label printer. This is useful for batch printing stickers for multiple vehicles at once.

Best Practices for Sticker Placement

  • Consistency — Place stickers in the same location on every vehicle so staff always knows where to look. The most common placement is the upper-left corner of the windshield (driver's side).
  • Visibility — The sticker should be easy to read from outside the vehicle without opening the door. This helps sales staff identify vehicles quickly on the lot.
  • Avoid obstruction — Do not place stickers where they block the driver's view or cover legally required labels (VIN plate, emission stickers).
  • Weather protection — For outdoor lots, place stickers on the inside of the windshield so they are protected from rain and sun exposure.
  • Removal — Use sticker stock that peels cleanly without leaving adhesive residue. This is important for vehicles going to the sales floor or being delivered to customers.
